We wanted to try some salt water fishing along with our kayak adventure. I have always enjoyed my trips to Swansboro so we decided to make that our destination.
There is a Wildlife launching ramp on the southeast side of the bridge (adjacent to Barrier Island Kayaks). Just left of the ramp itself is a great kayak launching slot right at the waters edge. You would be advised to wear some form of footwear since there are oyster shells and the like.

We picked up our kayak two weeks ago. It is a Wilderness Systems Pamlico 135T. |
It was a short paddle over to one of the many islands. There were a good number of kayaks in the area.
The 135T quickly converts to a solo so I paddled across the channel to an adjacent island to try the fishing. Debbie was more interested in the sun at the time.
The fishing was a great deal of fun. I caught over a dozen in a short time, ranging from pin fish to hog fish to spots. Debbie says she will have her salt water license before we return.
This could be some exotic destination in a foreign land. |

This was a really good destination. Perfect weather, good fishing and awesome scenery. We will definitely be going back soon. |
